Nikon D200 is my first digital camera, I chose it in favor of Canon 20D and 17-40 f4 L USM despite of the fact that all my film equipment was Canon.

What is interesting is that Nikon D200 was a kind of disappointment when compared with film, Kodak 400 Portra NC, Ilford BW and many other films scanned with a Nikon Coolscan 5000ED. The total resolution was around 21Mp (or so I was told) and at 300ppi the print size was around 30/40 cm and that was more than enough for web/prints, etc. Especially when using slide film the image looked so good that all I wanted was to go medium format and forget about digital and stuff.

I was using a Sony G500 21″ Trinitron monitor and the print size of the material i scanned was equal to the screen size… and after 2 years of being used to such 70Mb Tif files the Jpg from the D200 seemed so small and the print size was sensibly smaller, plus that the way the image looked at “actual size”  was very different, much softer that the film grain.

One thing I was always afraid of before going digital was that I will start photographing more and more and the number of good photos per number of shots taken will be a lot smaller. In the beginning I was being careful about this, but later the number of shots I took was huge and the number of shots I liked was small. And because I could shoot almost any number of pictures i did so and i ran into the File Managment problems…meaning that my old computer didn’t have enough hard disk space not computing power sufficient for the NEF’s.

will continue later or scrap it and start another one later.
